AI Built My WordPress Theme. It Still Needed a Human to Make It Perfect

Fernando Fernando 4 min read

I need to tell you the part of the last blog post I glossed over.

AI-Built-My-WordPress-sit

If you read how I started this blog, you know the sequence: ChatGPT designed it, Claude coded it, websitehosting.app hosted it. That story is true, and I stand by every word of it. But there’s a line in there I want to pull on, because it’s honestly the more useful lesson of the two.

The line was this: “Nuwan at ClickDo did the tweaking to make sure all looks well and mobile friendly as well for some extra polishing.”

That “extra polishing” wasn’t a footnote. It was a real piece of work, and it’s the piece nobody talks about when they post their “I built a website with AI in one weekend” screenshots.

The theme looked great. On desktop.

Claude wrote a genuinely solid custom WordPress theme, hero slider, dark mode toggle, reading progress bar, search, all hand-coded, no bloated page builder underneath. On a laptop screen, it looked exactly like the ChatGPT design brief. Gold and navy, Playfair Display headlines, clean spacing. I was thrilled.

Then I opened it on my phone.

The blog post pages, the actual articles you’re reading right now, didn’t collapse the way they should have. Headings crowded the edges. Some spacing that looked elegant on a 27-inch monitor turned cramped and awkward on a 6-inch screen. Nothing was broken exactly. It just wasn’t right. And on a blog, where most of my readers are going to land from a phone, “not quite right” on mobile is the difference between someone reading the article and someone bouncing in three seconds.

This is not a knock on Claude. It wrote clean, working code, and it fixed bugs I described in plain English in minutes. But an AI model working from a design brief and a conversation doesn’t have your specific pages open on twelve different phone sizes, catching the one paragraph that wraps awkwardly on an iPhone SE versus a Galaxy. That’s a different kind of work. It’s detail work. It’s craft.

So I handed it to people who’ve done this for decades

This is where my team at SeekaHost came in, WordPress developers with genuinely decades of combined experience custom-coding and building sites, not just clicking through page builders. I gave them the theme Claude had built and asked for one thing: make the blog post pages properly, fully mobile responsive.

They went into the CSS directly. Adjusted breakpoints. Fixed the typography scaling. Tightened the spacing that only looked wrong once you saw it stacked on a narrow screen. Nothing dramatic, no rebuild, just the kind of precise, manual styling work that comes from having done this hundreds of times before and knowing exactly where AI-generated CSS tends to fall short on real devices.

That’s the combination that actually works: AI for speed and structure, humans for the final 10% that makes it feel finished.

Why I’m telling you this

Because I think a lot of people are going to read posts like my last one, get excited, build a site with ChatGPT and Claude over a weekend, and then hit the exact same wall I did. The site will work. It just won’t be polished. And most people won’t know what to do next, do they learn CSS themselves? Hire a random freelancer? Give up and leave it slightly broken on mobile?

Here’s the answer: you don’t have to figure it out alone, and you don’t have to become a developer to get it right.

At websitehosting.app, this is exactly what our SeekaHost team offers users. If you’ve built your site the AI-assisted way, ChatGPT for design, Claude or any other AI tool for the code, and you need someone to go in and make it genuinely responsive, fix the custom styling, or handle any manual tweaks the AI didn’t quite nail, our developers can do that for you. Real people, real WordPress experience, sitting right there as part of your hosting.

You bring the vision. AI handles the heavy lifting of getting it built fast. And when it needs that last layer of human precision, our team is there to finish the job properly.

The honest lesson

AI has genuinely collapsed the cost and time of building a website, I said that in my last post and I meant it. But “AI can build it” and “AI gets every pixel right on every device” are two different claims, and conflating them is how people end up with sites that are 90% there and never quite finished.

The future isn’t AI instead of skilled developers. It’s AI plus skilled developers, each doing the part they’re actually best at. That’s the model I built this blog on, and it’s the model we’ve built websitehosting.app around too.

If your AI-built site needs that final polish, that’s what we’re here for.
